The secret of Abdullah Al-Sihati's sustainable generosity is more than just material giving.

Abdullah Al-Saihaty: A Symbol of Generosity and Kindness

By: Mohammed Al-Issa

Generosity is a noble human trait, not tied to wealth or poverty but rooted in a person’s humanity and empathy for others. It’s not just about giving money—it’s about offering anything that brings meaning to life, whether through knowledge, time, effort, or even a kind word that eases someone's pain.

Among the figures who have embodied generosity in its purest form, Abdullah Al-Saihaty stands out—a man who made giving a way of life, becoming a symbol of generosity and kindness. His charitable contributions are evident in many ways, particularly in the annual community suhoor gathering he hosts at his home in Saihat, a tradition that has brought people together over a shared meal of goodwill and love.

Philosophers have long debated whether generosity is an inborn trait or something developed over time. The truth is, it seems to be a mix of both. Some people are naturally inclined to give, even if it’s just a smile, while others cultivate generosity through upbringing and life experiences. But the common thread among all generous individuals is their deep sense of responsibility toward their community and their understanding of the importance of solidarity and compassion

Abdullah Al-Saihaty was not just a wealthy man spending from his surplus; he was someone who truly understood that wealth is a means to create goodness. His generosity wasn’t limited to material things—it extended to knowledge-sharing, creating opportunities, and extending a helping hand to those in need. His giving was never about seeking recognition; it was a core part of his philosophy on life. To him, true success was measured by the positive impact one leaves on others

Some may confuse generosity with extravagance, or limitless giving with financial recklessness. But true generosity is about wisdom and balance—something Al-Saihaty exemplified in every step he took. He gave with intelligence, knowing when to give, to whom, and in what measure. After all, generosity is not measured by quantity, but by its impact and the ability to make a real difference in people's lives.

For Al-Saihaty, generosity was not just a habit but a reflection of a deep-rooted principle in Islam. As Allah says:

"You will never achieve righteousness until you give from what you love." (Qur’an 3:92)

True giving is not just about sharing from excess, but about a profound sense of moral and spiritual duty

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was the ultimate role model in generosity, never turning away those in need and always responding to requests with kindness. Al-Saihaty followed this path, extending his hand to the poor, supporting young entrepreneurs, and contributing to building a stronger, more united community. Not for fame or praise, but because giving was simply part of who he was.

single act of kindness can change one person’s life, but the true power of generosity is when it becomes a system that continues for generations. Al-Saihaty didn’t just offer one-time assistance; he worked toward creating an environment that fosters sustainable giving. He understood that true goodness is not just about meeting immediate needs, but about empowering people to stand on their own.

Real generosity is more than just financial aid,it includes education, job creation, and projects that benefit entire communities. It is an investment in people, not just a temporary handout. Abdullah Al-Saihaty was more than a generous man; he was a role model in making generosity a lifestyle.

He taught us that giving is not reserved for the wealthy,it is a trait anyone can adopt, in whatever capacity they have. Even a kind word or the time we dedicate to helping others is a fobnbnrm of generosity.

So the question remains: Are we ready to make giving a daily practice in our lives? Do we realize that generosity is not a luxury, but a human necessity that makes life warmer and more meaningful?

Perhaps the answer lies not in what we say, but in what we do,when we start practicing generosity in the smallest moments of our day.
